Hundreds of bikers descended on a Maidstone crematorium this afternoon to give a motorcycle mad 95-year-old the send off she deserved.
They were responding to a social media plea by grieving son Roger Boxall, who took to Facebook to appeal for people to ride alongside his mother Audrey's motorcycle and sidecar hearse.
The post was shared more than 7,000 times in less than a week, with more than 200 riders — many complete strangers — turning up at Teston Bridge Country Park at 1.15pm.
The group descended through the town, past the Poplars Nursing Home on Tonbridge Road where Mrs Boxall lived for eight years and on to Vinters Park Crematorium.
Mr Boxall, of Four Acres, East Malling, said: "I'm overwhelmed by the support from the biker community. Mum was always a motorbike fanatic, whenever we were out and I turned my back for a second she'd be over with the bikers.
"We wanted maybe a dozen bikers to ride alongside her. Seven thousand shares, 400 new friends and hundreds of messages of condolence later and more than 200 bikers have turned out.
"The biker community has really come up trumps. These guys are fabulous, they have been absolute stars for us and we can't thank them enough."
The 64-year-old added: "She's back with my dad now, they were always a happy couple and had a great life. I'm glad they can be reunited after 18 years apart."
Mrs Boxall's passion for motorbikes is believed to date back as far as 1945, when she would travel to the speedway at Wimbledon every week with her late husband Cecil.
Mrs Boxall leaves behind sons Roger and John, daughter Jane, as well as 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
