Shoppers got a sneak preview of one of Maidstone's most colourful festivals today.

The Maidstone Mela was officially launched with a parade through the town.

It included pupils from three primary schools - Archbishop Courtenay, St Francis and St Michael’s - and was led by the Four By Four Bhangra dhol drummers.

The multicultural festival, now in its sixth year, will be held at Mote Park on September 14.
