Sexy lingerie could be making an appearance in a quiet, pedestrianised street in Maidstone.
Lingerie and hosiery company Pillow Talk, which already has premises in Upper Stone Street and a warehouse in Granville Road, Maidstone, has applied for a sex shop licence in Bank Street.
If approved by Maidstone council, it will take over the site that the British Red Cross charity shop vacated last month.
The licensing application is under the licensing of sex establishments and has been put in by Alan David Butler, of the Granville Business Centre, Maidstone.
Julie Lucas, from Banks wine bar in Bank Street, who was a member of the former Bank Street Traders’ Association, said she could understand if some objected to the idea.
But she added: “I think it is better to have a shop that is open than one that isn’t.
"I think it is really important that it comes and brings people down here to Bank Street.”
However, Town Centre Management has lodged an objection with the licensing department at Maidstone council.
The objection is on the grounds that Pillow Talk is already adequately represented in the area with two branches, and that the kind of establishment is not in keeping with the area.
Objections in writing must be with the council’s chief executive by November 2, and the matter will go before the licensing committee in December.
