A new Italian produce store has opened at the site of a popular town centre butchers.

Eat Italiano in The Mall, Maidstone, is now open to the public, after taking over the P&R Italian shop, which replaced JC Rooks & Sons.

The Mediterranean deli sells a range of produce – including artisanal pasta and sauces, as well as cured meats, cheeses, wines and olives.

On their website it says: “Whether you're a seasoned Italian food enthusiast or a curious beginner, you'll find everything you need to satisfy your cravings for authentic Italian cuisine at our shop.”

It is the second store to open, with another located in Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells.

Eat Italiano moved into the premises at the start of the month, replacing the P&R Italian Shop, which opened in August last year.

At the end of November, the owners said their branches in Sittingbourne and Maidstone would have to be sold due to the cost of living crisis.

It was also once home to JC Rook & Sons, which had 11 shops across Kent.

The butchers unexpectedly went into administration in March, with around 155 members of staff made redundant.

Eat Italiano is open Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 5.30pm and Sunday 11am to 4.30pm.
