Children have been left devastated after hundreds of pounds of play equipment was stolen in an overnight raid on their nursery.
A police investigation has been launched in response to the burglary at Brishing Barn Nursery.
The culprits climbed a fence to gain access to the site in Brishing Lane, Boughton Monchelsea.
A ladder has been found alongside the fence in a neighbouring property.
Nursery owner Elisabeth Balfour said: “It’s so sad. When they went out to play for the first time following the theft, they looked so confused.
"I’ve promised to buy them new equipment. But you do wonder whether the thieves will be back to take that too.”
Thieves struck in the early hours on Thursday, August 20.
They took two Little Tikes slides, four Little Tikes trundle cars, two bikes and even took the time to unscrew and remove a fixed wooden kitchen play set.
In total, the items were valued at about £1,280.
Mrs Balfour said: “It’s amazing how low people will stoop. They took everything.”
The nursery, which is housed in a Grade II listed barn, has 150 children on the roll. It is due to celebrate its fourth anniversary in October.
A police spokesman appealed for anyone who might have seen anything in the run-up to the theft, particularly late on Wednesday, August 19, to get in touch.
