Britain's newest political party - the Brexit Party founded by former Ukip leader Nigel Farage - landed in Maidstone at the weekend.
Brexit supporters manned a stall in Week Street near Marks and Spencer to encourage shoppers to vote for Brexit in the forthcoming European Elections - even though at the moment the Government has still not officially declared the elections will be going ahead, with Prime Minister Theresa May still hoping to get her "deal" through Parliament.
Pam Watts is the Brexit county organiser for Kent and was at the stall. She said: "It was a bit like ground hog day and much the same as the street stalls we ran for Vote Leave before the Referendum. "I can't believe we are still here doing it again. Not much seems to have changed, including voter intention. Maidstone is still very much a leave constituency."
Mrs Watts said that the recent announcement that Ann Widdecombe would stand for the Brexit Party had been well received by the public.
Miss Widdecombe was MP for Maidstone for 23 years between 1987 and 2010.
She said: "One thing that did come out loud and clear was a real love for Ann Widdecombe from all sections of the community.
"It's lucky she is on our side! There were lots of anecdotes about her, including one lady who recalled Ann visiting the hospital wards one Christmas Day and giving her sick husband a jar of House of Commons Humbugs! Very apt for today's Tory party I thought!"
