Kent Fire and Rescue Service is looking to shrink the size of its HR team - but recruiting firefighters.

Four roles are expected to be made redundant at its Maidstone HQ, but the staff are all being offered alternative employment within the organisation.

A spokesman said: “We’re currently consulting on the restructuring of our human resources department.

“This is not a cost-cutting exercise – we’re restructuring to enhance operational efficiency and expertise within the team and streamlining processes to help us deliver our next four-year community risk strategy and meet the changing needs of a modern workforce.

“Once the consultation has come to an end, any colleagues impacted will have the opportunity to be redeployed in suitable alternative roles within the service, where they exist.

“All colleagues are being supported through this process.”

The organisation is also currently recruiting on-call firefighters.

There are vacancies at nine fire stations across the county - Charing, Aldington, Cranbrook, Hawkhurst, Tenterden, Lenham, Headcorn, Marden and Larkfield.

It is inviting people who want to find out more about the role to attend a taster session on Saturday, October 12, at the Maidstone Fire Station on the A229, Loose Road.

You must live or work within five minutes of one of the stations with vacancies to be eligible.

KFRS has its HQ at The Godlands off Straw Mill Hill in Tovil, near Maidstone.

It currently employs close to 1,500 people.
