Campaigners will learn today whether they will get one last chance to save maternity and children's services at Maidstone Hospital.

Legal experts at Kent County Council believe the decision to move both units to Pembury could be overturned by a judicial review.

KM readers gave their support by sending in donations towards the high cost of the challenge.

Now KCC is weighing up whether it can afford to press ahead with the review, which could carry legal fees of £30,000.

The appeal must be lodged by the end of today - which marks three months since health secretary Andrew Lansley gave the green light to the move.

Our appeal, under our Birth Right campaign, has already raised more than £3,600, plus a donation of £5,000 - and donations can still be made.

In the event of the £30,000 target not being met, the KM will donate all proceeds to a health-related registered charity.
