It's 2,322 miles from Loose Primary School in Maidstone to Lapland (where Santa lives).

Children at the school can't travel to visit him because of Covid, but they keep fit by covering the distance in between.

Throughout this month, the pupils are running, cycling and walking miles either at home or at school towards the target.

Assistant head teacher Sean Johnson said: "We have some children at home at the moment self -isolating because of Covid, but this is an activity they can join in too."

The school is hoping to cross the 2,322 border into Lapland on Thursday, December 17, when the children will take part in a Merry Mile around the school playground - in fancy dress.

Mr Johnson said: "It will be one last push to clock up those extra miles we might need!"

Meanwhile generous parents are sponsoring the event and the school hopes to raise £2,500 to supply a "reading vending machine" for the school.

Mr Johnson explained: "A reading vending machine is a special vending machine that stocks books.

"We will use it to encourage children to do lots of reading and each term one child from each class will get to pick a special book from the reading machine to keep and take home."
