Justice secretary and Lord Chancellor Liz Truss is set to visit Kent today.
The MP, who is the first woman to have held the position, is due to meet with probation staff at Maidstone Crown Court, before observing the work that goes on in the courtrooms themselves.
Ms Truss has vowed to reform prisons, modernise the court system and open up the legal profession to be more representative.
Among the changes she wants to bring in is to make sure all vulnerable victims and witnesses can have their cross-examinations pre-recorded before a trial, to avoid having to relive their experiences in open court.
She has also pledged to give the prison system the biggest overhaul in a generation, promising extra staff and more one-to-one support to reform inmates.
But the visit comes just a day after there were further disturbances at HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey, after a prisoner gained access to the roof.
Meanwhile rioting prisoners destroyed one of the wings at Swaleside prison last month.
Last week, the Lord Chancellor went to two of London’s most high profile courts, the Court of Appeal and Central Family Court, to meet with frontline staff and see first-hand some of the work being delivered.
