Former Keg-Megs, some proudly clutching their old membership certificates, have already begun signing up for our reunion this summer.

The Kent Messenger, which is marking its 150th anniversary this year, is celebrating the part the young readers' club, the Keg-Megs, played in its history with a reunion on Sunday, July 19.

The club was for junior Kent Messenger readers and members had their own membership certificates, badges, promise and a song.

The free reunion with music and dancing will be held at The Exchange in Market Buildings, Maidstone, in association with the Hazlitt Arts Centre and Maidstone Borough Council.

The Keg-Megs was launched in March 1928, with a figurehead named Kousin Mac, and was open to under-16s. It closed in the 1970s.

There were three pledges members had to make: to be kind to animals; to try to keep smiling when things go wrong; and to do a kind act for someone every day.

If you were a member of the Keg-Megs, you can register for two tickets by popping in to our office at 6&7 Middle Row, Maidstone, during office hours or by calling 01622 695666. You could also fill in the form here and send it to our office. Your tickets will be sent to you.
