According to research by the Knowledge Academy, there are 20,961 children being privately educated in the county at the moment - making Kent the third highest in a league table by pupil numbers. They attend one of 57 independent schools in Kent.

In second place, just above with 22,130 pupils, comes Hertfordshire, which has 49 private schools.

Just below Kent, in fourth place comes Berkshire with 19,259 pupils, attending 60 schools.

At the top of the table by a long way is Surrey with 46, 583 pupils and 120 private schools.

At the other end of the table is Northumberland with only two private schools educating 494 children between them.
