Kent athletes won five indoor titles at the South of England Championships at Lee Valley Arena at the weekend.
Dina Asher-Smith (Blackheath and Bromley) took two gold medals in the under-17 women’s 60m (7.61) and 200m (24.78). Conrad Williams (Kent AC) secured the senior men’s 200m (21.39) with a season’s best.
Sean Molloy (Tonbridge AC) was too good for the under-17 men’s 1500m field with victory in 4min7.76sec. James West (Medway and Maidstone) was fifth in 4.15.24 and Corey De’ath (Tonbridge) was seventh in 4.18.68 in this race.
Shaunagh Brown (pictured) of Blackheath and Bromley won the senior women’s shot final (15.60m) with a personal best throw.
Several Medway and Maidstone AC athletes were in action at the event. Sian Keegan just missed a medal in the under-15 women’s high jump in fourth place (1.45). She was rewarded with a club record in the 800m (2.32.85), finishing third in her heat. Stacie Swift was fifth (3.07.37) for a personal best in the same race and was seventh in her 60m hurdles semi-final (10.73).
Tia Murray sprinted to sixth in her under-15 women’s 60m semi-final (9.16) after a heat in 8.48sec. She was also third in her 200m heat (28.41). Joanne Ware was 13th in the under-17 women’s high jump (1.50) and sixth in her 60m hurdles semi-final (9.88) in a new personal best. Jane Angus was fifth in the under-200m (26.47) after running faster in her semi-final race (26.32).
Mark Cryer was fifth in the under-20 men’s long jump (6.44) and sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.65). Darren March was sixth in the senior triple jump (14.45) and Alex Wharfe was fifth in his 60m hurdles heat (9.00) in a personal best.
