Households across the nation took part in a clap for the Queen this evening.
The unofficial event, which took place at 7pm today, was billed as a way for people to pay tribute to our late Queen, and was set up by a Kent resident.
Nicky Davis, from Maidstone, said she decided to organise the gesture because there were many people who could not travel to London to pay tribute to the Queen.
"I did this as I know there are many people that cannot get to London," she said.
"The Queen did so much for our country and many of us would not be here if it wasn’t for her actions many years ago.
"Also she loved animals just like myself and I just wanted people who couldn’t get to London to be able to clap to say a massive thank you for her service and all she has done for us."
The 53-year-old added that she cannot get to London so wanted to pay tribute in another way so set up the public Facebook event named 'Clap for our Queen Elizabeth at your front door or wherever you may be'.
"I suffer with ill health and can’t get to London as much as I would love to, and definitely wouldn’t be able to stand in the queue for 30 hours like they are saying to pass our Queen," she said.
On her Facebook event, Mrs Davis wrote: "Let’s let everybody know we loved our Queen. Join on Monday 7pm and clap those hands at your front door, back door, where ever you may be. Thank you."
It was hoped households across the nation would take to their doorsteps and hold a round of applause for Her Majesty this evening.
Mrs Davis said she was very surprised by the number of people who had responded.
More than 43,000 people said they would be clapping and more than 115,000 responded that they were interested in the event.
The event was inspired by the Clap for Carers during the pandemic which saw millions of households across the UK take to their doorsteps show their appreciation for the NHS.
