Little Kilu endured three hours of surgery after a vicious attack by two other dogs left him with life-threatening injuries.
But thanks to the care received from expert vets in Maidstone -one of whom stayed overnight to monitor him - the four-year-old Yorkshire terrier is set to make a full recovery.
Last night (Friday) the owners picked Kilu up from Vets4Pets in Sutton Road, though according to the practice owner Ivan Clark it may well be some weeks before the poorly pooch is back to his old self.
Earlier this week Mr Clark told the Kent Messenger: “When Kilu was admitted he was in a bad way and his condition was critical.
“We cancelled all routine appointments so all our attention could be focused on him.
“The surgery was a success, despite leaving Kilu with a 10in scar. The operation finished around 9pm, so I decided to make a temporary bed in the surgery that night so I could be on hand in case Kilu needed any further medical support. Unfortunately my dogs got to the bed first.”
When Kilu is allowed home, he will be kept in a small enclosure to ensure he rests properly for six to eight weeks, while it is estimated it will take six to eight months for him to make a full recovery.
Mr Clark added: “With the correct amount of recovery time, rest and care, Kilu should be able to lead a perfectly normal life, albeit with a large scar underneath his hair.
“I would like to thank all of our clients who had routine appointments cancelled for understanding the reasons, and to everyone who has been in touch with the surgery to wish Kilu well – it is very much appreciated.”
Great news everyone!! Little Kilu is well enough to go home! His owners came to collect him earlier today. Thank you all for following his story and all the best wishes, it's much appreciated.
