Maidstone could be under the control of Lashings supremo David Folb within a month, according to the man leading the bid to take over the financially-stricken football club.
Glenn Aitken, a former Stones player, is representing Mr Folb (pictured) as he bids to replace chairman Paul Bowden-Brown at the helm.
Mr Aitken said: "We are going through the financial information given to us by the club and would like to put a proposal to Mr Bowden-Brown by the end of next week.
"Taking over the ownership is complicated but we are confident we can do that and start bringing the club into shape.
"If everything goes to plan we would like to be in control within a month."
Mr Aitken said that should the takeover be successful the club’s name would not change.
He added both Maidstone’s and Lashings’ finances would be "ringfenced" meaning they would be run as separate entities.
"We’d like to bring financial security in the short-term before eventually making the club self-funding, " he said.
"Lashings have got the means to bring the club to the financial position it wants to be in but we won’t just bail out all the mistakes that have been made in the past.
Mr Aitken claimed there would be "no future" for the Stones if they were not based in Maidstone. He revealed the club had provided all the information relating to the efforts to bring the Stones home, including funding applications to the FA.
He hoped local businesses would come forward to support the club once a takeover was complete, but added: "We are not automatically seeking investors at the moment, it might complicate things."
