Quick-thinking staff at Maidstone Leisure Centre have been praised for saving the life of a woman in her 20s after she collapsed while swimming.
The 28-year-old woman was with a friend in the Mote Park centre’s fitness pool when she fell unconscious. Her friend held her up as two lifeguards rushed to help, and another raised the alarm, as the pool was cleared of the pool of other swimmers.
A defibrillator was used and the woman was resuscitated.
She was later taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
Jon Hymus from the centre said: “We are very proud of the staff members who all acted quickly to save a life. Our team are expertly trained in first aid to ensure that all of our customers are able to enjoy exercise in a safe environment.
"It is rare that those skills are put to the test with a case as serious as this, but the proper first aid procedure was followed and we are delighted that the lady began to breathe again."
