Young people are being offered the chance to become part of a team that will make their own 60-minute television programme
The Kent Youth Television project will run during the October half-term school holiday at Maidstone Studios.
A pilot scheme in August was hailed a great success, with 20 young people receiving training on all aspects of television production that resulted in a live-broadcast.
Jamie Wilson of Cre8iveYouth, who are supervising the project, said: “We will run a week-long course where young people can learn what it’s like to work in a professional TV studio, training as presenters, reporters, floor managers, vision mixers, directors, camera and sound operators, and editors.”
The course will conclude on Friday, October 31, with an hour-long live broadcast before an audience that will include the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Denise Joy; the KCC cabinet member for operations, resources and skills, Cllr Mark Dance (Con); and the managing director of the Maidstone Studios, Geoff Miles.
Mr Wilson said: “We are hoping that Kent Youth Television will gain enough support so that it can eventually become a full-time project, providing young people with professional training and experience in TV, as well as a voice to communicate their views and explore their interests through the content on the channel.”
Sophie McDonnell, a regular presenter on CBBC who also has her own Saturday morning BBC1 game show 50/50, will be working alongside the team on the course to help train presenters and crew.
A place on the course will cost £125. For details call 01622 684765.
