She only returned home three days ago but since then Lizzy Yarnold’s work load has not got any lighter.

Her schedule has been full of countless media interviews and a visit to Downing Street but, speaking at the launch of a new initiative for athletes, the Olympic gold medallist found time to speak with the Kent Messenger.

The 25-year-old was promoting the launch of the Register of Personal Development Practitioners in Sport, hosted by the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health in central London.

The new register will list qualified professionals who work with top level athletes, like Lizzy, to ensure they are given the best advice possible.

Speaking at the event she said: “Competing in the Winter Games at Sochi was an incredible, intense experience.

“I believe it’s so important to balance that intensity with quality support away from the track, such as provided by supportive performance lifestyle professionals.”

The former Maidstone Grammar School for Girls pupil also thanked supporters across Maidstone and said she looks forward to meeting them soon.
