Queues on M20 between junction 9 for Ashford and 8 for Leeds following crash

A motorcyclist was miraculously uninjured after a crash that caused their bike to land in the hard shoulder of the opposite carriageway.

There were tailbacks stretching back for miles on the M20 following a crash at 5.30pm, which also involved a car.

Traffic was at a standstill in the London-bound carriageway between J9 for Ashford and J8 for Leeds for around three hours.

Some of the debris, including the bike, landed in the opposite carriageway, leading to the motorway being closed in both directions while it was cleared.

The coast-bound side had reopened at 6.10pm but the London-bound side took a few hours longer.

Police thanked members of the public for their help in dealing with the incident. Some had helped officers to search for the rider along the embankment.

However, no serious injuries were reported.

The accident came as at least eight miles of tailbacks were reported on the M2 at Faversham following a coastbound collision involving multiple vehicles in which a child was cut free.
