Police investigating a sudden spike in rural burglary in the Aylesford area are asking the public to help them catch those responsible.
Tonbridge and Malling Neighbourhood Inspector Nick Sparkes said the public could help officers with their enquiries. He asked householders also to take a moment to think about home security to ensure they do not become victims themselves.
He said: “What we have seen in the last few days is a sudden but not huge rise in the number of burglaries along the A20 corridor, in villages like Aylesford, Ditton, Leybourne and Larkfield. What we want is people living in these areas to be extra vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to us.
“We had issues around burglary in the Mallings last year and, at that time, information from the public helped us bring two suspects to justice. We’d like the same help again.”
Particularly, he would like to hear from people witnessing cold calls where people knock on homes and then leave. He wants neighbours to be on the lookout for strangers knocking at other people’s homes and to call police if they suspect someone is scouting an area for empty properties.
Police recorded six burglaries or attempted burglaries in houses and sheds in Aylesford, Ditton, Leybourne and Larkfield between April 17 and April 22. Items stolen include jewellery, tools, mp3 players and a games console.
