Emergency services called to a crash on A229 between Lord Lees and Taddington roundabout

A man in his 50s has been airlifted to hospital following a crash which left a busy road closed during the morning rush hour.

Emergency services were called to the carriageway between the Lord Lees and Taddington roundabouts, close to the top of the A229 Blue Bell Hill, shortly after 8.50am.

The man was cut free from the cab of the vehicle and placed in the care of paramedics. He was treated at the scene with a serious leg injuries before being taken to King's College Hospital in London by air ambulance.

Two fire engines and a support unit were called to the scene, close to the Buckmore Park Kart Circuit.

Traffic was diverted at the Lord Lees Roundabout and motorists were warned to expect queues.

All lanes have reopened, and delays have cleared.
