Lucky the goat has TV’S Countryfile to thank for his comfortable new surroundings.
Three years ago, as a one-month-old kid, he was found thrown in a pond with his throat cut and tail lopped off.
A passer-by alerted the RSPCA and the animal was taken into the charity’s care.
That’s where he mostly remained until two weeks ago when a member of staff happened to be watching an edition of the popular BBC1 programme hosted by John Craven, Julia Bradbury and Matt Baker.
It contained a feature on the good work carried out by Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats in Boughton Monchelsea.
It’s the only registered one of its kind in the UK and the RSPCA knew immediately it was the best place for Lucky to put his nightmare days behind him.
Bob Hitch, who founded the sanctuary in Wierton Hall 23 years ago, said: “His original name is Pickles, but we renamed him because he’s lucky to be here.
“He’s settled in really well. Goats are herding animals and he’s learning to be part of a gang.”
Buttercups hosts an open day this Sunday. For more on Lucky see today's Kent Messenger.
