The M20 motorway was closed in both directions for more than two hours after a man threatened to jump from a bridge.
Witnesses say a man was standing on the wrong side of railings on a bridge crossing the road about a mile from junction 8 - he was brought down and detained by emergency services.
The road has now reopened. Ambulances were reported on the scene but the man is not thought to be injured.
Hockers Lane, which runs underneath the M20, was also closed.
The motorway was shut just after 6pm and drivers report long delays - many were waiting nearly two hours in the sun.
With the temperature hitting 26c, some left their cars and sat by the side of the road - a group of children was also been spotted playing football on the clear carriageway.
WATCH: One woman has been seen hula hooping
Some drivers have taken to twitter to condemn parents for allowing the games to go ahead.
Many other people sat on the barriers either side of the road, trying to escape the heat, and one woman has been seen hula hooping.
However Highways England appealed to drivers to stay in their vehicles as traffic was slowly being turned around and released from the queue.
It is thought motorbikes were released first.
At one point queues stretched back several miles.
