A man was trapped inside a car following a serious crash on the M20.
Traffic was held between J8 A20 Hollingbourne, near Maidstone, and J9 A251 Ashford following the incident that happened at around 12pm.
Police informed a car had left the coastbound carriageway and overturned between junctions 8 and 9.
Emergency services, including KFRS, Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex and paramedics were in attendance.
A spokesman for National Highways said: "The collision occurred on the eastbound and westbound has been blocked to facilitate the landing of an air ambulance."
Fire crews were called to reports of a man trapped at the scene.
Three engines attended and crews rescued the driver from a vehicle and they were passed into the care of paramedics.
Police confirmed he was treated for minor injuries and taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.
The M20 was shut in both directions while emergency services attended but according to traffic monitoring tool Inrix the road has since reopened
Drivers are being advised to consider alternative routes to their journey and expect delays owing to queues.
The Londonbound carriageway reopened at 12.55pm and the coastbound at 1.30pm.
A spokesman for Air Ambulance KSS said: "A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to the M20 at Harrietsham. We are unable to provide any further comment on this incident."
