Misery for motorists using the M20 and Blue Bell Hill is set to continue for the foreseeable future.
The contractors involved in repair work on the M20 bridge at Junction 6, the Blue Bell Hill turn-off, were unwilling to be drawn into how long the work would take. The estimate is still “a few more weeks”.
Meanwhile, motorists are facing extended delays – especially in the rush hour.
The coastbound distributor road, which runs parallel to the M20 between Junctions 5 and 6, is closed until the work is completed, as is Tyland Lane, which joins the southbound A229 north of the M20.
It has seen long queues building at peak times.
Through traffic on the M20 is unaffected, but delays are also building on Blue Bell Hill itself at peak times.
Emergency repairs were scheduled after the underneath of the bridge was struck by a vehicle and damaged.
Highways Agency spokesman Peter O’Connor said: “The damage was not reported by the driver, indeed he may not have known he had hit it, but it was picked up during a routine inspection.”
