M20 coastbound between Leybourne and Aylesford reopen after serious crash caused emergency repairs overnight

A motorway has fully reopened after emergency repairs caused by a crash were completed.

The M20 coastbound between Leybourne and Aylesford (Junctions 4 and 5) was closed at 12.45pm yesterday (August 24) after a serious crash between a car and lorry.

An air ambulance was called to help treat a man who suffered serious injuries and took him to hospital for further medical attention.

A woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The lorry reportedly overturned on the coast-bound carriageway with National Highways saying there was significant damage to the road surface which required resurfacing work overnight.

The London-bound carriageway was also closed yesterday between Junction 7 for Maidstone and Junction 5 for Aylesford, but reopened shortly after the incident.

The coast-bound carriageway reopened at about 6.30am this morning.

Following the crash, police and paramedics attended, as well as five fire engines.

The crash caused a ripple effect on traffic in the area as people attempted to divert away.

Queues built on the nearby A20 with slow moving traffic. was also reported between Junction 1 of the A2 (Strood) and Junction 3 (Maidstone) coastbound.
