Dr Wendy Chapman, the doctor implicated in the rugby blood scandal, has been suspended by the GMC.
Harlequins player Tom Williams alleged that Dr Chapman, an A&E consultant at Maidstone Hospital, cut his lip after he feigned an injury during a Heineken Cup match.
He had used a blood pill to feign injury so that another player could be brought on as a substitute. He later told a rugby disciplinary panel that he asked Dr Chapman to cut him after he was taken off the pitch so that his deception would not be uncovered.
The General Medical Council has now confirmed it is investigating the incident and has forbidden Dr Chapman from practising until its probe is complete.
