Lizzie Daniels who scored once in each half against Saffron Walden
Lizzie Daniels and Kirsty Hotson both scored twice as Maidstone Hockey Club's ladies won 5-2 at East Women’s Premier Division strugglers Saffron Walden.
Daniels put Maidstone in front after only three minutes from a penalty corner but the Essex club’s youngsters responded well, showing plenty of pace and determination.
A half-time team talk had the desired effect on Maidstone’s performance, as they played some excellent hockey in a
20- minute spell, Daniels adding a second with Cara Brogan and Hotson getting the others.
Maidstone conceded two sloppy penalty corners but went looking for more goals, only to be denied by the home goalkeeper.
Maidstone travel to Thurrock (tomorrow) Saturday.
Chris Bassano-Harper scored four for Maidstone’s men but they could only secure a draw at Purley Walcountians in South Premier Division 1.
The striker took his tally to nine for the season – just two behind the division’s top-scorer Alex Mowat, who scored twice for Purley in the 5-5 draw.
Tom Nissen also scored for the visitors who remain one off the bottom of the division before tomorrow’s (Saturday) home game against title-chasers Wimbledon.
