Maidstone is slowly returning to normal this morning as the snow beings to melt.

A handful of schools remain closed but many have re-opened this morning.

Those shut include Angley in Cranbrook, Maidstone Grammar School and Oakwood Park Grammar, which are all closed to pupils except those sitting exams.

Closed primary schools include Five Acre Wood in Maidstone which is listed as being shut as the site is dangerous due to snow.

Kent Police is reporting no problems on major routes in Kent although minor roads may be slippery.

The advice if you're planning to travel today in Kent is to try to stagger your journey, avoiding rush hour, or use public transport.

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Adams said: 'We are aware that Monday is likely to be a busy day on the roads and so people should allow longer for their journeys. Check before you set out to establish road conditions and any delays.'

Kent Police has dealt with nearly 16,000 calls to its Force Communications Centre in Maidstone in the past four days - a 22 per cent increase on the normal volume.

Park and Ride was running this morning and Southeastern trains' website says a normal service should be operating.

Most Arriva bus services are running, but are subject to delays. Service 101 is unable to serve Maidstone East Station/County Hall. Service 155 is running only between Chatham and Borstal.
