A convicted rapist has admitted having three video clips of a woman performing sex acts with a dog.

Gareth Reader, 32, who was locked up for 10 years in 1999, pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images between November 26 and December 4 last year.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the films, with a total duration of about 40 minutes, were found on a USB stick.

The memory device had been found in the back of a police vehicle that had taken Reader to a police station for an unrelated matter.

Iestyn Morgan, prosecuting, said Reader, of Nelson House, Wallis Avenue, Parkwood, Maidstone, initially denied it belonged to him.

However, forensic analysis later revealed the USB stick had been used on his laptop.

Louise Oakley, defending, told the court although the clips had been downloaded, there was no evidence of repeat viewing. "Nonetheless they were still in his possession," she added.

No details of Reader's rape conviction were given in court, although Miss Oakley said he was no longer subject to a licence period.

Adjourning the sentencing hearing for reports, Judge Philip St.John Stevens said it was a "somewhat unusual case".

But he warned Reader, formerly of Victoria Street, Gillingham, the fact he was asking for reports and releasing him on bail should not be seen as an indication of the possible outcome.
