Maidstone played their best rugby of the season but still finished on the wrong end of another heavy London 1 South defeat, losing 35-0 at Sidcup on Saturday.
They created enough but failed to score for the second week running, although the performance suggested there is plenty to build on.
The pack proved more than a match for Sidcup in the tight, were mobile in the loose, line-outs were better, and the back line posed a lot of questions.
Scrum-half Gavin Milne provided sharper service, fly- half Tommy King ran and fed the ball effectively, and Neil Graves’ move to the right wing went well.
The first half was a real battle between the respective backs, as Maidstone held firm in the early stages, before Sidcup took the lead after 25 minutes, with a 35-yard penalty and then added a second on the half hour
Maidstone fell further behind conceding two tries as Sidcup increased their lead to 18-0, and then added a penalty. Two more tries, one of the them converted, sealed Maidstone’s fate, but they still battled on, with King and prop Rob Jeffrey close to scoring.
A late fracas saw two players from each side yellow carded.
