Maidstone Rugby Club's veterans overcame Old Beccehamians 53-0 to reach the quarter-final of the Evergreen Cup on Sunday.

Maidstone, aiming to put the disappointment of losing the last two finals behind them, used their heavier pack to good effect and opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a push-over try, followed by a score from Dominic Baxter who pounced on a loose ball after good work from Mike Laurenson.

The half-back partnership of Dave Tugwell and Mike Laurenson was outstanding as Maidstone built a big lead while former club captain Jon Sargent excelled on his Vets debut.
