Maidstone head to Canvey Island on Saturday in the Ryman League Premier Division relegation zone but with one of the best away records in the division.

The Stones travel to Essex on the back of just one defeat in seven away matches stretching back to September – only three teams have better form on the road.

Maidstone bowed out of the Kent Senior Cup with a last-gasp 3-2 defeat to Ebbsfleet on Wednesday but Simon Glover (pictured) played a full 90 minutes in a makeshift team and could start at Canvey.

Boss Andy Ford said: "It was good for him to get 90 minutes under his belt. We’ll see how he reacts but he’s certainly got more in the tank now – enough for an hour at least. He’s an important player for us."

Alex Flisher's knee injury will keep him out of Saturday’s game, with Ford waiting to hear the extent of the damage.

Tom Parkinson (knee) could miss the rest of the month with but Michael Phillips (knee) may return by next weekend.

Ford hailed the arrival of teenage defender Laurence Harvey, who signed from cash-strapped Sittingbourne, before being red-carded 19 minutes into his debut against Harrow last Saturday.

Ford said: "Laurence has never been sent-off in his life so it is disappointing for him. From what I have seen of him I’ve been impressed.

"He has got size, he’s quick and technically good. He’ll do a good job for us."
