Maidstone boss Andy Ford is looking at his second striker in a week with local league player Bill Driver on trial.

After landing Paul Vines on loan, Ford, pictured, is running the rule over Driver, who fired a hat-trick for Star United, leaders of the Raja of Kent Maidstone & Mid-Kent Sunday League, last weekend.

Driver’s form for Shepway United, in the Express Cabs Maidstone & District League, has also caught Ford’s eye.

Ford said: "I am looking at players but you want to see them in training or a training game before you commit to anything.

"Driver has been scoring an awful lot of goals in the local leagues. I wouldn’t risk throwing him straight into the first-team right away, that would be a gigantic step up, but he is a proven goalscorer in local football."

Stones' top scorer Danny Hockton has gone to Bromley on loan for a month to replace Vines, who scored more than 120 goals in fewer than 200 games for Tooting before moving to Hayes Lane in the summer.

Weather permitting, Stones will visit Billericay on Saturday. Simon Glover remains out with a back injury but James Peacock is nearing a return. Andy Walker could play in goal after flu, but out-of-favour full-back Jermaine Darlington has left the club.
