Two former Maidstone players have returned to the club as Peter Nott’s squad for the new season begins to take shape.

Centre-back Nick Davis, 28, returns to the Stones – where he played in the Kent League under Jim Ward – after an injury-plagued season at Tonbridge.

Nott (pictured) said Davis had fully recovered from a tendon injury which limited him to just one game last season.

Also returning to the Stones is centre-back Marc Clarey, who finished the season playing for Conference strugglers Grays following a February switch from Waltham Forest.

The Essex-based 22-year-old initially left Maidstone two years ago and has also turned out for Billericay and Maldon.

The pair join new arrivals Colin Richmond and Simon Pettit in the squad while Andy Walker, James Peacock, Tom Parkinson, Ashley Ulph, Ant Bodle, Antonio Gonnella, Keelan Mooney, Adrian Stone and Danny Hockton will all stay on.

Only Nathan Paul, Jermaine Darlington, Mark Corneille and Chris Saunders are still considering their options, although all four have been invited to pre-season training, which starts at Cobdown on July 6.

Nott said the club could not afford to keep all four players as "the club is working to a significantly reduced budget so we will not have the resource available to accommodate them all."
