Maidstone's director of rugby Andy Foley has revealed picking the team for the club’s huge RFU Senior Vase regional final was the hardest selection of the season.

Maidstone travel to Newmarket for the London final on Saturday knowing that should they win, the Mote Park club would be just one victory from a showpiece final at Twickenham.

Foley (pictured) admitted: "We are all fit – we have a full squad to choose from. It means the selection was the hardest we’ve had all season.

"There are some disappointed people on the bench – but it’s even worse for those who are not involved at all. There’s no room for sentiment in picking a team for a game like this.

"Hopefully, if we can get through, then the task will be a little easier in the next round as you are allowed seven replacements."

Newmarket are struggling in London 3 North East, sitting second-bottom while Maidstone sit fourth in the South East equivalent, but Foley said they would not take their hosts lightly.

He said: "We’ve seen them play and they are a good side. They are organised and have big forwards."
