There will be another empty shop front in town from tomorrow with the convenience store My Local set to shut for good today.
The shelves of the shop on Week Street in Maidstone are now almost completely bare.
The company announced last week that it is to go into administration. Approximately 15 people are employed at its Week Street store.
My Local was bought by new owners just nine months ago, when investment firm Greybull Capital purchased it from Morrisons for £25 million.
After the announcement that My Local will be going into administration, the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) said that staff were devastated.
Its national officer Joanne McGuinness said: “Having been sold by Morrisons last year, there was a mood of optimism that the new owners could turn around the business.
“We are talking with the company in a bid to save jobs and get the best deal for staff. In the meantime Usdaw is providing the support, advice and representation they need at this unsettling time.”
Meanwhile, a date is yet to be given as to when Maidstone’s BHS will close.
