A Tonbridge man appeared in court today accused of murdering a child.

The 23-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have killed the youngster on November 1 last year.

The man spoke only to confirm his name during the brief preliminary hearing at Maidstone Crown Court.

He is expected to enter a plea to the charge at his next court appearance on August 7. He was remanded in custody until that date.

A provisional trial date in November was fixed by Judge Andrew Patience QC.
