Darenth man to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court after police chase

A man is to appear in court after a car chase ended in the alleged assault of a police officer.

Officers were alerted to a vehicle being driven without lights on in Royal Engineers Road, Maidstone, just after 9pm on Friday and signalled to them to stop.

Following a pursuit which ended in Radnor Close, a man was chased on foot by officers back to Royal Engineers Road where he was arrested.

It is also alleged he tried to assault the arresting officer.

Edward Murphy, 19, from Darenth Wood Road, Darenth, has since been charged with drink driving, failing to stop, failing to stop after a road traffic collision relating to a collision with a parked vehicle, assault of an emergency worker, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He will next appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on November 1.
