Detectives have charged a man with the murder of a 19-year-old woman on Christmas Day.

Police were called to Kentish Court, off London Road in Maidstone, shortly before 1.20pm on Tuesday, where the victim's body was found.

Mohammad Qoraishi, aged 27 and of London Road, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and was charged today.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court tomorrow via video link.

Officers remained at the property today, with activity centred around a flat on the top floor of the three-storey block.

Residents have expressed their shock at the tragic death, in a neighbourhood described as "peaceful" where people were said to keep to themselves.
