A man has appeared in court charged with rape, assault by penetration and burglary.

James Donoghue, of no address, was remanded in custody after a hearing at Maidstone Magistrates' Court.

The 42-year-old faces two charges of rape, two charges of assault by penetration and two charges of burglary.

The charges come after a woman was attacked in a house in the Fant area on Tuesday July 14, at 11.20am.

His case has now been committed to crown court. His next hearing is on Friday, July 31.
