A man died after being pulled from the River Medway on Friday evening (November 26).

Police were called after reports that a man was in the water, next to the riverbank, at St Peter's Street, Maidstone, at around 5.30pm.

It is believed that a passer-by spotted the man in the water and pulled him from the water before emergency services arrived on the scene.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Maidstone Hospital, but sadly died later.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious and the coroner has been notified.
