A town's football community has been rocked by the death of "one of their own" following a town centre fight.
Wayne Duck, 43, was flown to hospital with serious head injuries after the incident in Pudding Lane, Maidstone, last Thursday.
Kent Police yesterday confirmed he had died from those injuries.
Following the news Maidstone and Mid Kent Sunday League David Boughton said: "We are devastated to hear that one of the own, Wayne Duck, has tragically died at the age of just 43.
"The whole Maidstone football community is shocked to the core. Wayne was a well-known figure in the local football scene, for more than 20 years he played for Park Royal FC and also latterly was club secretary as well, the club running two teams successfully in the Maidstone and Mid Kent Sunday League.
"Wayne was a passionate individual, who loved his family, friends and football, and with his strong character has left a huge void."
A minutes silence will be held before all games this Sunday."
Friends have also posted tribute on social media, with one saying: "Why is life just so cruel at times! Gone way too soon! Thanks for the memories."
Friend Phil Griffiths said: "He was such a gentleman who would do everything to help anyone and did loads for charity.
"He pumped so much of his time and effort into the club to keep it running.
"He helped so many players out with difficult times and didn't expect anything back other than having beers after a match.
"Park Royal won't be the same."
He was described as a "top bloke and top football manager" by another.
Police closed the road between The Herbalist bar and The Old House at Home pub for seven hours while a forensic investigation was carried out.
A 23-year-old man from Maidstone who was arrested on suspicion of assault, and a 37-year-old man, also from the town, and arrested on suspicion of affray, were both bailed on Thursday, March 3.
A force spokesman confirmed a disturbance had broken out and the first patrols arrived to the street where shattered glass could be seen on the pavement near a bus stop.
A man suffered serious injuries and was flown to hospital after getting treatment in Pudding Lane from ambulance crews.
The air ambulance landed in Mote Park. It took off around 9.30pm.
Officers could also be seen in the park putting items of clothing into bags.
At the time a police spokesman said: "Patrols were called to a report of a disturbance in Pudding Lane.
"Officers attended and a man has been taken to a London hospital by air ambulance for medical attention."
