Police were called to Maidstone this evening when a man was seen walking through the town centre dressed in full camouflage gear and carrying a replica rifle.
When officers arrived they discovered he was on his way to a Go Commando military-themed party night.
Gems Maidstone is hosting the party night for adults with learning disabilities at Bar Chocolate in Market Buildings.
But as people arrived in camouflage gear, holding a replica machine gun, the party-goers attracted the attention of CCTV operators.
At first the search focused on a man who looked like a Christmas tree. This later turned out to be full camouflage gear.
There is no suggestion any of the young people attending have done anything wrong and police have confirmed no offences were committed.
A spokesman said: "Kent Police called at 6.10pm to reports of a suspicious male in Week Street, Maidstone. Officers attended and no offences were disclosed."
But the party night comes just four nights after the Paris terror attacks where gunmen opened fire on people enjoying a night out at a gig and in restaurants, while bombers targeted the Stade de France stadium where a France-Germany friendly was being played.
There is extra security in the UK tonight for the England-France match at Wembley with armed officers standing guard at the stadium.
According to its Facebook page Gems Maidstone hosts regular party nights for adults with learning disabilities.
It has also won positive reviews for the friendly atmosphere of the party nights.
One attendee wrote: "Love spending my Tuesdays here, great friendly atmosphere and great place to spend your Tuesdays, meet lots of new friends and hopefully may find someone you really like. the DJ plays the best music on the night. Best nightclub I have been to."
Another posted: "Nice atmosphere there and you meet a lot of new friends there."
