A man was taken to hospital after being glassed at a town centre bar.

Police were called at around 1.30am on Sunday to the Social Chill Bar after reports someone had been punched by a person holding a glass or bottle.

The incident happened in Week Street, Maidstone, in a part of town which has previously been labelled “lawless”.

Officers attended and arrested Chay Hart, 34, near Broadway shortly after.

Hart, of no fixed address, was later charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He has since been remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, December 4.

The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries but has since been discharged.

Last year, a man was left with "appalling facial injuries" after a similar incident.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious cut to his face and bruising after being struck with an unknown object.
