A man was left with "appalling facial injuries" after an incident at a town centre bar.
The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious cut to his face and bruising after being struck with an unknown object.
Police were called at around 2.10am to the Social Chill Bar in Week Street on Sunday, April 10.
Now, they have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the attack.
Detective Constable Kim Bashford, of Maidstone CID, said: "This entirely unprovoked assault has left the victim with appalling injuries that will require ongoing treatment.
"We have been completing enquiries in the area, including the examination of CCTV footage, and are now releasing images of a person who may be able to assist with our enquiries.
"While the images are blurred, we are hoping somebody will recognise him and call our appeal line."
The town centre, in particular Week Street, has seen a number of serious incidents over the past few years.
Most recently, an 18-year-old boy was stabbed outside KFC, just yards from the Social Chill Bar, and taken to hospital.
Kent Police, Maidstone Borough Council and Kent County Council have revealed a new town centre task force will be launched in June to tackle violent and anti-social behaviour.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call police on 01622 604100, quoting crime reference 46/68155/22.
