A man was stamped on, kicked and punched in a prolonged attack in Maidstone.
Witnesses are wanted by police investigating the violent assault which happened outside a petrol garage and supermarket on Tonbridge Road, near the junction with Stanford Drive, late Saturday night.
At around 11.45pm Saturday and 12.15am Sunday, the victim was approached by another man who he is believed to have known, before being attacked.
Police and ambulance crews attended and the victim was taken to hospital with multiple head and face injuries.
Officers are appealing to residents and motorists who may have important information to contact them.
DC Kate Humpheryes, of west Kent CID, said: "This was an extremely violent assault which has left the victim suffering some appalling injuries.
"We believe the suspect is known to the victim and are working hard to locate and arrest him.

"At some stage both of them spilled into the road and we are urging motorists who may have been in this area to check for any dashcam footage which may assist our investigation.
"We are also asking residents to check home security CCTV or doorbell cameras."
