Man suffers head and arm injuries after ‘serious assault’ by the River Medway in Maidstone

A man was taken to hospital after allegedly being punched and falling to the floor.

The reported assault took place in Maidstone by the River Medway, in a riverside area close to Bishops Way and the Archbishop’s Palace.

It happened at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, June 13, and police and paramedics were called after a man in his 50s suffered head and arm injuries.

A suspect was arrested later the same day and taken into custody. James Packham, of Pudding Lane, Maidstone was charged with wounding.

Mr Packham, 25, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was bailed to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on July 15.

Investigating officer, PC Lucy Basson said: “It is understood there were several people in the area at the time of the incident, some of whom may have phone footage that may assist our investigation.

“We are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.”
