A man had his jaw fractured when he was punched in what police say was a totally unprovoked attack in Maidstone.

The 31-year-old was walking home along Kingsley Road around midnight on Saturday, April 23, when the assault took place.

Investigating officer PC Richard McIlroy from Mid Kent's area crime unit said:

"This appears to have been a totally unprovoked attack on someone who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and we are keen to catch the offender.

"The victim heard someone running towards him from behind and, without warning, he was punched once to the right side of his face."

He added: "The blow caused a fracture to his jaw which needed an operation to fix and he spent three days in hospital following the assault."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Kingsley Road area that night and may have seen the attack or the offender to contact them.
